Along with five weeks of annual leave, French employees get time off if they work more than 35 hours in a week. At the Hopital Vaugirard, a public hospital in central Paris, employees have accumulated more than 2 million days off in the past decade.
For women in business, the squeaky wheel doesn’t get the grease
“Our recent Catalyst report, The Myth of the Ideal Worker , reveals that women do ask for raises and promotions. They just don’t get as much in return.
The research focused on career paths of high-potential men and women, drawing on thousands of MBA graduates from top schools around the world. Catalyst found that, among those who had moved on from their first post-MBA job, there was no significant difference in the proportion of women and men who asked for increased compensation or a higher position.
Yet the rewards were different.”
Bosses, Stop Caring If Your Employees Are At Their Desks
Kelly and Moen—who published their work this week in The Journal of Health and Social Behavior—found that employees who switched to ROWE took better care of themselves. Not only did they get an extra 52 minutes of sleep before workdays on average, they were also less likely to feel obligated to work when sick and more likely to see a doctor when they needed to. And the turnover rate among employees that switched to ROWE was only 6%, compared to 11% with the control group. In addition, their increased sense of schedule control and reduced work-family conflict led to increased self-reported energy levels and decreased psychological distress.

How I feel About Mondays via Reddit.
The past four months I’ve been juggling two jobs and while monetarily it has been great, the stress is finally reaching a boiling point. On one side I have what I hope to be a blooming career, and on the other, a job that got me through college and picked me up after getting laid off. But my restaurant job is simply not cutting it when it comes to my scheduling needs.
I’m hoping the current scheduling issues was a simple mistake, cause if it isn’t than I won’t have a 2nd job by the end of the week.
NYE is only a few days away and this year has definitely been one of the best. But it has also made me realize that I need to make some changes in my life.
I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for about 7 years now (8-9 years if I count ages 15-18). Simply put, I’m fed up. I now have a stable 9-5 job which is great, but it doesn’t pay me enough. So to supplement my income I’m still working at a restaurant. Two jobs = STRESS.
This year I vow to get out as soon as possible. Whether I find a freelance blogging position or something else, I need to get out. I don’t deserve what I put it up with there. No one does.
